Bookish is a reading brand: a website and shop, a newsletter, and an app with cinematic scenes, a bookshelf and a reading community. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your information, and we don't use advertising trackers.
Who we are
Bookish is run by Luna & Fable Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16324820), registered office 124–128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. We are the data controller for your information. Contact us any time at hello@bookish-club.com.
Our website and shop
- Browsing. Our site runs on Shopify, which records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit, to keep the site secure and working. See our cookie policy.
- Early access and newsletter. If you join, we keep your first name, email address, the genres you choose and your consent to hear from us. We use them to send early-access news, scene drops and launch offers. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Orders. When you buy, we receive your name, email, phone number, delivery and billing address and what you ordered, so we can deliver it and handle returns. Card details are handled by our payment providers; we never see them.
- Waitlists. If you ask us to tell you when a design is ready, we keep your email address and which design you chose.
- Fonts and links. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which sees your IP address. Links to Instagram and YouTube take you to those sites, where their own privacy policies apply.
The Bookish app
What stays on your phone. Most of the app works without an account, and this never leaves your device: your bookshelf (books, TBR, statuses, ratings, private notes, owned copies and shelf vibe), photos you take of your covers, favourite and recent scenes, and your sleep timer. Delete the app and it is deleted too.
If you create an account (needed only to post in the community, join a book room, link a bookmark or join a waitlist), we keep:
- your email address, or the details Apple shares when you use Sign in with Apple (which can be a private relay address)
- the display name and optional reader photo you choose, which other readers can see
- what you post: reviews and star ratings you share, comments, answers to the weekly question and posts in book rooms, which other readers can see (spoilers stay hidden until a reader has finished the book or chooses to reveal them)
- reports you make, readers you mute and posts our moderators hide
- the code of each Bookish bookmark you link, so each bookmark has one owner
Other things the app does:
- Book search sends your search words to Open Library and Google Books to find matches. We don't send who you are.
- Premium is paid through Apple; we never see your card. RevenueCat tells the app whether your subscription is active, using an anonymous ID and your App Store purchase record.
- The Shelf (our in-app shop) uses Shopify's checkout, covered by the website and shop section above.
- Casting looks for Chromecast devices on your Wi-Fi. This stays on your network.
- NFC reads only the link stored on a Bookish bookmark, and only when you tap it or scan it during setup.
- Camera and photos are used only when you choose to photograph a cover or pick a reader photo.

Who helps us
These companies process information for us under contracts that protect it:
| Company | What they do |
|---|---|
| Shopify | Our website, shop, checkout, newsletter and order emails |
| Supabase | App accounts, community posts and sign-in |
| Resend | Sends app emails, such as sign-in codes |
| RevenueCat | Checks your Premium subscription status |
| Apple | App Store payments, Sign in with Apple |
| Fonts on our website, Chromecast casting and Google Books search | |
| Internet Archive (Open Library) | Book search and covers |
Some of these companies are based in, or store data in, the United States or elsewhere outside the UK. When information leaves the UK, it is protected by the UK–US Data Bridge or the UK's approved contract terms.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Orders: six years, because UK tax law requires it.
- App account: until you delete it in the app (Profile › Delete account). That removes your profile, reader photo, posts, comments, answers, likes, room memberships, reports, mutes and waitlist entries, and releases your bookmarks so they can be linked again.
- Backups are cleared within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information, or object to how we use it. Email hello@bookish-club.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Bookish is for readers aged 13 and over. If you think a child under 13 has created an account or joined our newsletter, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you on this page and in the app before it takes effect.
