Help · Bookmark care

Treat it like a first edition.

Your bookmark has no battery, no charger and no moving parts. It only asks for the care you’d give a book you love.

The care ritual

Six small kindnesses.

i.

Never charge it

Seriously, there’s nothing to charge. Passive NFC draws its tiny spark from your phone when you tap.

ii.

Dust, don’t drown

A soft, dry cloth is all it needs. Keep it away from water, cleaning sprays and the bath (we know, we know).

iii.

Mind the bend

It’s slim, not supple. Don’t fold, flex or use it to prise open a stubborn spine.

iv.

Keep it cool

Avoid radiators, hot car dashboards and long afternoons in direct sun. Candlelight is fine; candle flames are not.

v.

Give it a home

Between chapters it lives in your book. Between books, rest it flat or in its box, away from keys and loose change.

vi.

Tap, don’t tap-dance

A gentle tap is all it takes. Hold your phone near the bookmark for a moment; no need to press.

If the magic fades

Tapped, and nothing?

  • Check NFC is switched on in your phone’s settings (Android).
  • Unlock your phone, then hold its top edge to the bookmark for a second or two.
  • Take off thick or metal phone cases, which can block the signal.
  • Make sure the Bookish app is up to date and your bookmark is paired.

Still nothing? Send word and we’ll help, or replace it if it’s faulty. See returns.
